Banking and finance  Banking and finance is one of Gide Loyrette Nouel’s key strengths and it is the undisputed go-to firm in France for this type of work. Its dominant focuses lie within the project finance, acquisition finance and structured finance fields, as well as general banking work. Acting for BNP Paribas as mandated lead arranger on the EUR2 billion LBO financing of the acquisition of Elis Group by Eurazéo. Advising the Fonds de Réserve pour les Retraites (FRR) in connection with its first EUR1.5 billion capital investment programme. Acted for Calyon and Caisse Régionale du Crédit Agricole Mutuel du Centre Est as mandated lead arrangers in the financing of a tramway between Lyon Part Dieu and Lyon St Exupéry. Competition/anti-trust  Gide’s competition and anti-trust group enjoys a solid reputation, particularly within its Paris hub. Its high-profile French team is particularly active on anti-trust procedures, and Gide has represented several key clients before the French Competition Council and the Court of Appeal in 2007. Supported by the firm’s international offices, the team handles a wealth of competition matters, including merger control, cartels, abuse of dominant position and vertical restraints work. Acted for Glac/Toury in the acquisition of part of the assets by the Charentes-Poitou Dairy Cooperative group. Corporate/M&A  Gide’s impressive corporate practice spans the globe and 2007 was another solid year for the French firm. It remains popular among French multinationals seeking co-ordinated cross-border advice, while also building strong ties with leading corporates in markets where it has a presence. It was involved in some of the leading M&A transactions of the year. As well as having impressive teams in Europe, notably in France and Turkey, the firm has a stand-out team in Morocco, from where, along with its base in Tunisia, it maintains a very strong North Africa practice. Represented fashion retailer Nordstrom on the sale of its subsidiary, Façonnable, to a family owned company, M1 Group, based in Lebanon. Advising BNP Paribas on the acquisition of a stake in Sahara Bank. This was the first privatisation of a Libyan bank and the first transaction to be operated through the Tripoli Stock Exchange. Represented Groupe Monnoyeur on the sale of the control of its subsidiary, Cofidim, to CDC Capital Investissement. Dispute resolution  Gide’s dispute resolution team covers many industry sectors, with experience in every aspect of commercial litigation. It has a particularly impressive French practice, and head of international arbitration, Pierre Raoul-Duval will be taking over as senior partner of the practice in 2008. Despite losing white collar crime specialist Kiril Bougartchev to Linklaters in 2007, the group retains impressive breadth, with solid niches in IP and employment litigation, on top of its general commercial focus. Represented Air France in a dispute over a comparative advertising campaign launched by low-cost airline Ryanair, involving the French carrier. Energy  Gide’s energy department has grown significantly over the past couple of years and now boasts excellent capabilities in the regulatory market. Its global energy team advises major organisations and governments in the gas and electricity industries, where the firm advises both public and private utilities companies and consumers.
