Atlantech software framework provides a platform forservice providers to develop element management applications tosupport heterogeneous networks. Atlantech's software is designedto interact with other existing management systems such as legacyOSS (Operation Support Systems) and billing software. The company has 120 employees and is based in Glasgow,Scotland. http://www.atl.co.uk/http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/146/pressroom/2000/feb00/corp_030100.htmCisco Systems, March 1, 2000CHORUMDEBUTS ITS ALL-OPTICAL SWITCHES BASED ON LIQUID CRYSTAL TECHNOLOGYChorum Technologies, astart-up based in Richardson, Texas introduced three opticaldevices based on its liquid-crystal technologies: a non-mechanical, all-optical, Fast Add/Drop switch; anoptical switch designed for optical restoration, protection, test, and provisioning applications; and a voltage-controlledsolid-state optical variable attenuator for broadband orsingle-channel applications. Chorum said its all optical switches will offer millisecondswitching with performance comparable to mechanical opticalswitching technologies, but without requiring the use oftemperature control or electronics. Product shipments will begin in Q2. Chorum is also developing "Optical Slicers", which are ultra dense optical interleave filters for use ineither long-haul or metro networks. Chorum’s DWDM routercomponents, which will use the Optical Slicers, are being designedfor passive optical multiplexing and demultiplexing systems thatsupport hundreds of channels at data rates of 10 Gbps and higher. http://www.chorumtech.com/Chorum, March 1, 2000InDecember, Chorum received $42 million in a round of venturefinancing led by Bowman Capital Management. Scott Grout, Chorum's CEO, previously served as vicepresident of Lucent's optical networking group. Other investors in the firm include J. & W.Seligman Co., Amerindo Investment Advisors, CenterPointVentures, InterWest Partners, Sevin Rosen Funds, AustinVentures and Sycamore Ventures. CORNINGINTRODUCES NEW FIBER FOR METRO NETWORKSCorning introduced anext generation, single-mode, non-zero dispersion-shifted opticalfiber designed for metropolitan area networks. The Corning MetroCor fiber operates across the entireusable bandwidth from 1280nm to 1625nm and is compatible withexisting single-mode fibers. Corning said the new fiber carries an optical signal longerdistances, using less expensive transmission lasers without theneed for dispersion compensation, thereby reducing the amount ofcompensation and amplification equipment needed along the networkpath. http://www.corning.com/news/news_update1/index.htmlCorning, March 1, 2000AVANEXTO LAUNCH ADD/DROP AND DISPERSION SLOPE OPTICAL PROCESSORSAvanex plans to launchtwo of its photonic processor designs at next week's Optical FiberCommunications conference:PowerExchangerReconfigurable and Fixed Optical Add/Drop MultiplexingProcessor, which can selectively add or drop any number ofoptical channels off the main trunk of a networkSuperPowerShaperDispersion Slope Processor, which contributes to longeroptical transmission distances by combating the tendency offiber optic signals to drift horizontally and distort as theytravel over longer distances. http://www.avanex.com/Avanex,March 1, 2000LIGHTWAVEMICROSYSTEMS OFFERS 40-CHANNEL 100 GHZ DWDMMUXLightwave Microsystemsintroduced a 40-Channel 100 GHz AWG DWDM Multiplexer/DeMultiplexerdevice based on planar silica waveguide technology.
